Link Preview Checker

Paste a link to see how it looks when shared, with a checklist of what to fix and the tags to copy.

What is Open Graph?

Open Graph is a small set of meta tags in a page's <head>. When someone shares a link, Facebook, LinkedIn, Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack and many other apps read these tags to build the preview card: og:title for the headline, og:description for the text and og:image for the picture.

X (Twitter) reads its own twitter:card tag first and falls back to Open Graph for the rest. Google uses the normal <title> and meta description for search results.

Why do link previews break?

The most common reasons: the og:image is missing, too small, behind a login or on a URL that redirects; the tags are added by JavaScript after the page loads (most crawlers don't run JavaScript); or an app still shows an old cached preview.

A relative image path like /images/card.png also causes trouble in some apps. Use a full https:// address.

How to fix the common problems

Render the tags on the server so they are in the HTML. Use one og:image of 1200×630 pixels, under 1 MB, on a public https:// URL. Keep titles under 60 characters and descriptions under 160. Set twitter:card to summary_large_image.

After a fix, ask each platform to read the page again: Facebook's Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn's Post Inspector refresh their caches; for Telegram, send the link to @WebpageBot.

FAQ

Is this tool free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and the links you check are not stored. To keep it fair, each visitor can check 20 links per hour.

Why does my preview look different on Facebook?

Platforms cache previews. If you changed your tags, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger to refresh the cache, then share the link again.

What size should my og:image be?

1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) works everywhere. Keep important text away from the edges, because some apps crop the image.

Can it check pages behind a login or on localhost?

No. For safety the checker only reads public web pages on ports 80 and 443, and never private or local addresses.
